How to apply for passport application online?

  1. Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal. Visit the following link http://passportindia.gov.in and click on ‘register now’ if you are a new user. In case you are an existing user, you can click on ‘login.’
  2. After clicking on ‘register now,’ the page will redirect you to the registration page. All the mandatory fields are marked with an Asterix. Fill all the details and click register.
  3. An email is sent to your email-id in which you will receive a link to activate your account. Login to your email and click on the click to activate your account. A new page will open where you will need to enter your user id and click on ‘submit.’
  4. After clicking on ‘submit,’ a message will be displayed on the screen that your account has been activated successfully. After that click on ‘click here’ option and the page will redirect you to the login page.
  5. There you need to enter your login id and click on ‘continue.’ A new page will open, and you have to enter the password and the displayed characters on the screen. Then click on ‘Login.’
  6. Your account homepage will open where you will get different options. You need to click on ‘Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport.’ Here, you will get two alternatives. One is to fill the application form online and second is to fill the application form offline. For this, you need to download the form from here https://portal1.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/Resources/PassportApplicationForm_Main_English_V4.0.zip and upload it after filling.
  7. If you are filing the form online, then you need to select your state and city from the options provided. Then you will get the options of ‘fresh passport’ and ‘re-issue of passport.’ Select the appropriate option and select the type of application whether normal or tatkal. You will also get the option of passport booklet whether you need it of 36 pages or 60 pages.
  8. If there is need to change in particulars such as name, address, spouse name, signature, DOB, surname, etc. or if your passport is lost or damaged or expired you can select reissue of passport and choose appropriate columns. After that click on ‘next.’
  9. You need to fill all the necessary details and click on ‘next.’ Again a new page will open where you will need to fill the details such as your father’s & mother’s name & surname. Then click on next.
  10. After filling all the required details, the page will redirect you to subsequent pages. Fill all the details and click ‘next.’ After submitting all the details, you will be redirected to the page where you have to pay fees and schedule an appointment. Online payment is compulsory for booking appointments at all PSKs.
  11. After successful payment click on ‘Print Application Receipt’ to print the application receipt containing application reference number (ARN)/Appointment Number.
  12. Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO) where appointment has been scheduled, along with original documents. Only emergency/medical cases and preapproved categories may visit PSK without an appointment. In case the applicant does not attend the PSK within 90 days from the online form submission, he needs to resubmit the application form.

Birth Certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths or the Municipal Corporation or any other prescribed authority, whosoever has been empowered under the Registration of Birth and Deaths Act, 1969 to register the birth of a child born in India

Transfer/School leaving/Matriculation Certificate issued by the school last attended/recognized educational board

Policy Bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Corporations/Companies having the DOB of the holder of the insurance policy

Copy of an extract of the service record of the applicant (only in respect of Government servants) or the Pay Pension Order (in respect of retired Government Servants), duly attested/certified by the officer/in-charge of the Administration of the concerned Ministry/Department of the applicant

Aadhaar Card/E-Aadhaar

Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Election Commission of India

7

PAN Card issued by the Income Tax Department

8

Driving License issued by the Transport department of concerned state Government

9

A declaration given by the Head of the Orphanage/Child Care Home on their official letter head of the organization confirming the DOB of the applicant
