Earlier in July, CBEC asked the authorities to go easy on the taxpayers till the stabilization of GST; and even asked not to send notices to them. However, as per some official sources; soon the government will send a notice to the taxpayers who have failed to file GST returns.
Government to Issue Notice to the taxpayers who have not filed GST Returns
Because of the postponement of measures under GST such as the e-way bill, reverse charge mechanism, matching returns, the taxpayers have found a way to avoid taxes, as per the government official.
Finance Secretary, Hasmukh Adhia had asked Union & State Tax authorities to review the revenue collection in the first five months of the GST implementation. As per the report, GST collection in October was at its lowest at Rs. 83,346 crores. This was much lower than any previous collections. As per the Government official, the collection might have been reduced; due to the reduction in the GST rates for more than 200 items during last month.
The Chairperson of CBEC, Vanaja Sarna in a letter to their officers; said about sending notices to the assessees who have not filed GST returns under their jurisdiction may be considered. Further, the GST council has also decided to implement the e-way bill in case of interstate movement of goods from 1st February while for interstate carriage, from 1st June.
