Further, the government has also instructed the telecom operators to visit the doorsteps of senior citizens, disabled, and chronically ill people, to complete the re-verification. The telecom operators are even setting up an online system for such citizens so that they can request for doorstep Aadhaar verification.

You must note that the linking process cannot be done online. An individual shall physically visit the store or a retailer to link Aadhaar and mobile number. However, the Aadhaar-mobile number linking is not mandatory for those, who have already completed Aadhaar based biometric verification during the purchase of new connection. Also, you don’t have to any charges for this process.

  • An active SIM card
  • A copy of the Aadhaar card

Process of linking Aadhaar to mobile number

  • The subscriber has to visit the nearest store of respective telecom operator. He can also visit the nearest retailer providing linking process if he has a prepaid number.
  • There, he has to submit the Aadhaar number and mobile number details.
  • He will receive four digit OTP on his mobile number from the re-verification application.
  • Then, the subscriber has to submit the OTP to the store executive and provide biometrics.
  • After 24 hours, the subscriber will receive SMS. Reply with ‘Y’ to complete the e-KYC process.

The government has also directed the telecom operators to deploy iris scanning devices at service points. Individuals who are having difficulties in verifying the identities through fingerprint-based Aadhaar authentication can use these facilities. Individuals applying for a new mobile connection also need Aadhaar based e-KYC.

Amendment from 1st December 2017

The subscriber who intends to complete their Aadhaar based SIM verification can now complete the process from home. Customers can finish their seeding process by using OTP or IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System) and need not visit any retailer or store. However, for this, the subscriber should have already registered the mobile number in the Aadhaar database. If the subscribers are unable to use the OTP based verification, they can opt for iris-based biometric devices for re-verification.
