What is PAN Card? How to apply ? PAN Card in HUF

PAN (Permanent Account Number) is a 10-digit alphanumeric number allotted by the Income Tax Department to the person or HUF. Here, we will lead you through the process of applying for PAN card.

Apply for PAN for Individual

An individual can make online application of PAN on the following websites:

  • Visit one of the websites and fill in all the details in the Form 49A after reading the detailed instructions.
  • A confirmation screen will display all the data supplied by the applicant before submission. If there are any errors rectify them or if not re-submit the form.
  • If the residence address is in India, the fee for processing PAN Card application is Rs. 110/- (Rs. 93 as application fee + 18% GST), which an individual can pay by demand draft, debit/credit card or through net-banking.
  • If the residence address is outside India, the fee for processing PAN application is Rs. 1020/- (Rs. 93 as application fee + Rs. 771 as dispatch charges) + 18% GST, which can only be paid by debit/credit card or by demand draft at Mumbai.
  • The bank will charge applicants who make an online payment an additional charge of up to 2% (plus applicable taxes) of an application fee for providing gateway facility. And applicants making payment through net-banking will be charged an additional surcharge of Rs. 4/- + GST for payment gateway service.
  • After the payment is made successfully, an acknowledgment will be displayed, which shall be saved and printed by the applicant.
  • Then he has to send acknowledgment number along with the following documents to the NSDL through courier/post within 15 days of online application at the following address:
    Income Tax PAN Services Unit, NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune – 411016′.
  • PAN Card application would be processed by NSDL, only after the receipt of the documents.

Proof of Identify:

Copy of;

  • Elector’s photo identity card; or
  • Ration card having photograph; or
  • Passport; or
  • Driving license; or
  • Arm’s license; or
  • Aadhaar card issued by the UIDAI; or
  • Photo identification card issued by the Central Government or a State Government or a Public Sector Undertaking; or
  • Pensioner Card having photograph; or
  • Central Government Health Scheme Card or Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme photo card; or
  • Bank certificate in original on letterhead from the branch containing the duly attested photograph and bank account number of the application.
  • Certificate of identity in original approved by a Member of Parliament or Legislative Assembly or Municipal Councillor or a Gazetted Officer, as the case may be.

Note: In the event of a minor, any of the above documents of any parents or guardian shall be considered to be the proof of identity.

Proof of Address:

Copy of;

  • Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI; or
  • Elector’s photo identification card; or
  • Driving license; or
  • Passport; or
  • Passport of spouse; or
  • Post office passbook having address of the candidate; or
  • Latest property tax assessment order; or
  • Domicile certificate issued by the government; or
  • Allotment letter of accommodation issued by the Central Government or State Government of not more than 3 years old; or
  • Property registration document; or
  • Copy of following documents of not more than three months old;
  • Electricity bill; or
  • Landline telephone or broadband connection bill; or
  • Water bill; or
  • Consumer gas connection card or book or piped gas bill; or
  • Bank account statement; or
  • Depository account statement; or
  • Credit card statement; or
  • Certificate of address approved by a Member of Parliament or Member of Legislative Assembly or
  • Municipal Councilor or a Gazetted officer; or
  • Employer certificate in original.

Note: In case of an Indian citizen not residing in India, a copy of Bank Account Statement in the country of residence or a copy of non-resident external bank account statements, not more than 3 months old is required as proof of address.

Proof of Date of Birth:

Copy of;

  • Birth certificate assigned by the municipal authority or any office authorized to issue birth and death certificate by the Registrar of Births and Deaths or the Indian Consulate; or
  • Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI; or
  • Elector’s photo identity card; or
  • Driving license; or
  • Passport; or
  • Matriculation certificate or mark sheet of recognized board; or
  • Photo identification card issued by the Central Government or State Government or Central Public Sector Undertaking or State Public Sector Undertaking; or
  • Domicile certificate allotted by the government; or
  • Central Government Health Service Scheme photo card or Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme photo card; or
  • Pension payment order; or
  • Marriage certificate by the Registrar of Marriages; or
  • Affidavit sworn before a magistrate stating the date of birth.

Apply for PAN Card for HUF (Hindu Undivided Family)

  • Application form for PAN Card for HUF is same as in case of an individual, but some changes shall be considered as under:
  • In the column of “Last Name/Surname,” complete name of HUF should be written.
  • Photo of Karta is not required but a signature of Karta is needed at same places as in case of individual and application will be signed by the Karta by Black Ink.
  • An affidavit is required in original form along with the hard copy of the application.
  • An affidavit must include name, father’s name and address of all the coparceners on the date of application.
  • Any of the documents as in case of an individual, in the name of Karta of the HUF, is required as proof of Identity, Address & Date of Birth
  • The Date of Birth of HUF is the Date of Creation of HUF, which the affidavit needs.
